I'm an inspirational African American women artist and owner of Art & Ambition, a creative service agency. I try to incorporate natural hair into majority of my work because it is the purest form of a woman, and even though I enjoy all hair styles, I believe it's important to love yourself underneath it all. I've been natural for 6 years. I began to wear my hair natural after getting perms every 6 months, going away to college, and not having anyone to perm my hair. It was more forced than a choice but I embraced the change pretty fast. I starting reading Curly Nikki and researching products. The best thing about being natural is trying new things, if you mess up just wash your hair and start over. Of course the worst part is the time it takes to manage my hair and buying pricey products. I've tried so many products but I have my go to's including: Curls' Blueberry Bliss Twist & Shout, Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave- In and my Avocado oil.
I mostly wear two strand twist outs and most recently twists with cold rods on my ends. I've been dying my hair since I was 16 and have little breakage. I try to trim my hair monthly (maybe twice if I dye it that month) and keep is moisturized daily. Coloring hair can be tricky so I suggested to use a product that works for your hair and a color that you can keep up with. Reds need to be refreshed often and lighter browns get dried out fast from my experience. I wear my hair in twists for about 4 to 9 days at at time before taking them out. I condition my hair with my twist in and oil my scalp to refresh them. This has helped with keeping my dyed ends from breaking.
